WHEN BEAUTY TAKES THE STAGE

Glamour # Culture # Inspiration

In an era dominated by social media and the art of self-promotion.

In an age where Beauty and Glamour shapes our digital interactions.

At a time when influencers wield their power of seduction over millions of followers, we explore the evolution of beauty codes and rituals through the ages.

We’ve chosen to trace this narrative over two centuries, from the early 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century, a period that witnessed the transition from French and European luxury beauty craftsmanship to an industry now globally recognized.

Indeed, it was originally in the royal courts of France and Europe where trends were set and then dismantled before spreading more widely. The significance of physical presence, along with the desire to allure, dazzle, and assert social status, was profoundly manifested at these courts. Here, beauty and makeup trends emerged as symbols of power. Owning artisan-crafted luxury beauty items—such as patch boxes, makeup mortars, ointment pots, and precious mirrors (extremely rare at the time)—was absolutely essential for these influencers of yesteryears.

As monarchies slowly declined and the industrial revolutions of the 19th century took place, these fashions spread far and wide, especially with the rise of perfumes and cosmetics brands; not to mention mass production, advances in chemistry, and the influence of new societal and artistic figures, complemented by a beauty-advice-rich press.

The exhibition features approximately fifty historical items and documents from private collections, highlighting a commitment to sustainability and quality. Nearly all items are refillable, undoubtedly serving as inspiration for today’s beauty sector.
